Another Doughnut Vault Queue and A

Last Friday we caught up with doughnut fan Amidoux Berube who recently moved to the neighborhood and has a bird’s eye view—he can see the Doughnut Vault from his apartment window. Ami can easily scope out the queue and gauge when he might dash down for a doughnut. But surprisingly he’s been 6 times before and come away empty-handed, but turns out that Friday was his lucky day. Here’s the scoop…

Amidoux Berube

Doughnut Vault: Have you been here before?

Amidoux Berube: Yeah, I’ve been like, 6 times before, but I’ve never gotten a doughnut. I can even see the line from my condo. Once I looked out, and saw there was no line, I dashed down, and thought I had it made, but it was a Monday and you guys were closed.

DV: What about the other 5 times, what happened there?

AB: Well so I have to catch the Brown Line for work and I usually have to cut out of line after like 10 -15 minutes.

DV: Well, looks like today is your lucky day.

AB: Yeah, I went out last night, had a few drinks, because today is my day off. I woke up, looked down at the line, and said, ‘I’m going down for a doughnut.’

DV: So how’s the doughnut? What did you order?

AB: I got a buttermilk and a vanilla glaze.

DV: Preference?

AB: So far the buttermilk, but I’ve only had two doughnuts. This thing (gestures to the giant vanilla glaze in his hand) is kickin’ my ass.

DV: So what do you think of the Doughnut Vault

AB: This place totally appeals to me. It’s got a lot of character, the menu is written on the wall, it looks old and doesn’t feel like something you’d find in this neighborhood. You don’t think of a cool place like this with bumpin’ hip-hop in this area.

DV: Oh yeah?

AB: Yeah, I dj and produce music some.

DV: What hip-hop are you listening to now?

AB: I like Brother Ali, most of the Anticom label stuff is good. I’m also big on Serengeti, he’s a Chicago artist and a buddy of mine.

DV: Do we play him at the Doughnut Vault?

AB: I haven’t heard him here, but you should.

DV: Thanks for the tip and keep fighting the good fight with that doughnut.
